Louisiana is strange enough as is, so it wasn’t to hard to discover the places I’m showing to you in this post. We (me + significant other + dog) traveled 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge to find the world’s largest living Bald Cypress tree and rumors of cliffs and waterfalls hidden in the woods.
The local art scene in Baton Rouge is getting noticeably more exciting!
Elevator Projects is an art collective that holds “pop-up” experimental art exhibitions. It was started by a group of LSU graduate art students who saw a need for more open platforms for art in the community.

Sneak preview! Here are some snippets of an upcoming art exhibition in New Orleans, Louisiana that I organized and am collaborating in for the SGC International Printmaking Conference. Uncharted Territories: A Printscape is a collaborative installation by a group of emerging artists in South Louisiana. The installation includes a conglomeration of large format printmaking, papermaking, fiber, video projection, sound and light.
It is about time that I share a few photographs of my Master’s of Fine Arts thesis show, The Latent Landscape, which took place in April 2011 at the Glassell Gallery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

My print/hand paper art was accepted into the, here it goes, 5th National Collegiate Handmade Paper Art Triennial. This exhibition is juried by Jane Milosch, and sponsored by the Brodsky Center at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and the Corcoran Center of Art + Design.
Cinclaire Study 4 was part of a series of work shown at The Latent Landscape, my MFA Thesis exhibition in April, 2011. More from that show can be seen at my website, www.maybabcock.com. It is a charcoal paper cast woodcut with charcoal drawing, string and pulp painting. Don’t ask, because my process was most likely even more complicated than summarized. Maybe that’s a future blog post. Maybe.

Other than working at my real job and attempting to run this blog, another recent activity has been organizing an art exhibition for the upcoming SGC International Printmaking Conference, Navigating Currents. This year, it will be in New Orleans, Louisiana, and only a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from Baton Rouge.
